The mortar used is the local limestone mixed with water, obviously it has held-up well.

This photo was taken from the top of the tallest ruin. A little scary but quite beautiful...careful now, balance.




Janet on top of the tallest ruin! Yes, we climbed to the top...we did not 'deface' the artifact. Actually there are steps constructed in the back for the archeologists, we used these.

Rain god




Altun Ha ruins, about 30 miles North of Belize City and 6 miles inland from the Caribbean. These Mayan ruins were recently excavated, this area was primarily agricultural and a trading center. The ceremonies performed here were not sacrificial but related to growing crops.
